This program is for children who have not yet started Kindergarten and are in the U4 and U5 age groups (see age chart in downloads section). The emphasis of the program is recreation, with the opportunity to get some basic (beginning level) soccer instruction as well as some "pick-up" games. Some training exercises may involve “parent and me” activities. Click HERE for more information on the Tiger Academy Programs.

The Northwestern Soccer Program participates in the Northern Valley Youth Soccer League, a recreational league that places an emphasis on player participation. Teams are formed at U10, U12 and U14. Practices are twice a week with a game on the weekend. This group has the opportunity to participate in select recreational tournaments.
The Lehigh Valley Youth Soccer League is the competitive league that the Northwestern Soccer Program currently participates in. Teams are formed beginning at U9 and are at every age group up to U14. Team tryouts are held at the end of the spring season (end of May/beginning of June) for the following fall-spring soccer season. Although most teams play both Fall and Spring season, the Fall season is considered the “primary season”. Players not selected by a competitive team are placed on a recreational team. Practice is between 2 and 4 times per week with games on the weekends. Competitive teams participate in soccer tournaments held throughout eastern PA and surrounding states.
One of the most confusing things about soccer is the age grouping. Soccer teams are designated by age, for example Under 12 Girls (U12G). As of the 2016-17 soccer year, soccer players are now grouped by CALENDAR YEAR. If a player is born during a specific year, they can participate at that age grouping for the entire soccer year (Fall and Spring - not the calendar year). Download the US Soccer Age Chart Matrix (PDF). The easy to read chart will help you determine the age level of your child. Once you know your child's soccer age level, you can easily determine what Northwestern Soccer programs they are eligible participate in. Please note that at the U9 level your child is eligible to participate in either the Recreational or Travel program. The program chosen will depend on your child's skill level and the desired level of competition. If you have any questions about this or anything else please contact the Northwestern Soccer director at
